SMU's Annual Celebration of Lights Set for Dec. 2

The Celebration of Lights, Southern Methodist University's annual welcoming of the holiday season, will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, on the University's main quad.

More than 100,000 decorative lights will fill the trees and luminarias will line the sidewalks.

The public is welcome to join the SMU community for a night of caroling and a holiday performance by SMU's Voices of Inspiration.

SMU President R. Gerald Turner will follow a decades-old tradition of reading The Christmas Story from the New Testament. Before the close of the celebration, the SMU Christmas tree will be lighted.

A reception follows in the Hughes-Trigg Student Center Ballroom.

The event is sponsored by SMU's Student Foundation. Throughout the holidays, the trees on the main quad, as well as the Christmas tree, will be lighted in the evenings.
