Musical Theatre Showcase with Kimberly Grigsby

The Division of Theatre and the Meadows Opera Theatre presented 14 talented Meadows singing actors in featured selections from the Broadway stage.

The performance on Friday, March 7, was the culmination of a two-week intensive workshop with acclaimed Broadway music director/conductor Kimberly Grigsby.

Ms. Grigsby, a graduate of Meadows, has been at the helm of Twelfth Night, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, The Full Monty, Caroline or Change, and The Light in the Piazza on Broadway. She is currently music director for the smash hit Spring Awakening, the 2007 Tony Award winner for Best Musical.

As an additional bonus for Meadows students, Grigsby brought her Broadway colleague Adam Guettel, the Tony-winning composer/lyricist of The Light in the Piazza, to her last masterclass rehearsal to help provide final touches to the student performances.

Guettel, who is the grandson of famed musical theater composer Richard Rodgers (as in Rodgers and Hammerstein), attended the showcase on March 7. Afterwards, he auditioned singers from the Meadows Opera Theatre program for an upcoming project, and then joined Grigsby for the final master class of the workshop, held in the Bob Hope Theatre.
