SMU'S MEADOWS SCHOOL ANNOUNCES NEW MICHAEL L. ROSENBERG PERFORMING ARTS YOUTH SUMMER WORKSHOP AND AVAILABILITY OF 20 SCHOLARSHIPS

DALLAS (SMU) -- A generous grant from the Michael L. Rosenberg Foundation will fund a new, one-week Michael L. Rosenberg Performing Arts Youth Summer Workshop at Southern Methodist University and will provide 20 scholarships for promising students to attend. The workshop will be held June 17-21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at SMU's Meadows School of the Arts. The scholarships are available to all DISD students in grades 7-12. Students must be recommended by their teachers and must schedule an audition by May 3, 2002 in order to be considered.

The intensive workshop is intended to provide experience and encouragement to aspiring singers, actors and dancers. Students will study acting, singing, movement and dance with faculty from the Meadows School and professional performing artists. The workshop will culminate in public performances at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on June 22 in the Margo Jones Theatre at SMU. In addition, the entire workshop will be filmed documentary-style, and at the conclusion of the workshop each student will be given a professional videotape of their week's work, including their final public performance.

The Michael L. Rosenberg Foundation was created in 1997 by Michael L. Rosenberg, a Dallas philanthropist. The Foundation supports organizations that promote educational, medical and fine arts projects. The Board of Directors have placed a special emphasis in giving to causes that relate to children and young adults. Other board members in addition to Mr. Rosenberg are Dr. Lawrence Barzune, who along with his wife, Dolores, is a noted Dallas civic leader, and Sandy Kaufman, CPA and SMU alumnus.
