SHAKE OFF THE TAX DAY BLUES AND JOIN THE MEADOWS JAZZ VOCAL FOR A FREE CONCERT OF HAROLD ARLEN SONGS ON APRIL 15

DALLAS (SMU): Taxes got you down? Are you singing those blues in the night? Remember, the best is yet to come, so come on, get happy and join the Meadows Jazz Vocal ensemble at Southern Methodist University as they present "The Harold Arlen Songbook" at 8 p.m. Monday, April 15 in Caruth Auditorium, 6101 Bishop Blvd. on the SMU campus. Selections will include "Blues in the Night," "Over the Rainbow," "Get Happy," "I've Got the World on a String" and other classics from one of America's legendary songwriters. Directed by Alan Wagner, the Meadows Jazz Vocal is a jazz rhythm section with solo vocalists focusing on both traditional and contemporary jazz. The vocalists develop improvisational scat singing in addition to a repertoire of jazz standards and torch songs.

Alan Wagner, Ph.D., is assistant professor of music education at SMU. A bass and saxophone player, he has performed at jazz festivals around the country and organized an annual jazz festival in Buffalo, NY that is now in its eighteenth year. Wagner also serves as the conductor of the Meadows Wind Orchestra at SMU and as a guest conductor and clinician for music education, bands and jazz in high schools and colleges throughout the U.S.
