SMU English Professor Wins
2006 American Book Award

Darryl Dickson-Carr, an associate professor of English at SMU, has won the 2006 American Book Award for his book, Columbia Guide to Contemporary African American Fiction.

In the book, Dickson-Carr addresses the influences of a variety of literary movements, critical theories and publishers of African American work, and also discusses the role of literature in African American life.

The American Book Award was established in 1978 and seeks to recognize outstanding literary achievement by contemporary American authors.
