SMU Professor's Book Honored
by Dallas Museum of Art
SMU’S Randall Griffin, chair and associate professor of art
history, was awarded the Dallas Musuem of Art’s Vasari Award for
the best art history book authored by a scholar from Texas.
His
book, Homer, Eakins, and Anshutz: The Search for American
Identity in the Gilded Age, examines how both artists and
critics tried to create an identity for America during this era of
great wealth and prominence.
Criteria for the award include
originality and depth of scholarship as well as insight into
aspects of art that enriches people’s understanding of visual
arts.
