Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports
Receives International Masonry Award

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU’s Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports was awarded the Honor Award in the Education College/University category from the Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA).

The 2006 MCAA International Excellence in Masonry Awards was recently held in Las Vegas. The purpose of the awards is to recognize mason contractors, architects and building owners for outstanding accomplishments in masonry design and construction.

The Dedman Center was called, “an exquisite example of Greek revival architecture with fine masonry detailing and superb craftsmanship,” according to judges’ comments released by the MCAA. The judges continued, “[It is] a powerful solution that shows off brick and cast stone with a high level of restraint – a building to be celebrated.”

The first phase of the Dedman Center opened in fall 2005. The second phase will open this summer. Dee Brown Inc. of Garland was the masonry contractor and Hahnfeld Hoffer Stanford of Fort Worth was the architect.

The MCAA is a national trade association representing masonry contractors and suppliers in national legislative and political affairs, codes and standards composition, workforce development, education, market promotion and general industry advocacy.
