March 2, 2006 SMU DIRECTOR WINS ALBERT J. HARRIS AWARDThe International Reading Association awarded the 2006 Albert J. Harris Award to Patricia Mathes, director of SMU’s Institute for Reading Research, and her five co-authors. The award was in recognition of their research on the effects of theoretically different instruction and student characteristics on the skills of struggling readers. It is given for published journal articles or monographs that help people understand the prevention or assessment of reading or learning disabilities. ### SMU
