SMU'S HAMON FINE ARTS LIBRARY
NAMES THREE NEW LIBRARIANS
DALLAS (SMU) -- The Hamon Fine Arts Library of the Central University
Libraries at SMU has appointed three new librarians: Stacey McGee Beach,
Heather Barrett and Beverly Gibbons.
Beach began working in the Center for Information Processing on January
18, 2005. She earned her M.L.S. degree in the Information Organization
Program of Study from the University of North Texas in 2004. As a library
intern in the summer of 2004, Beach contributed to authority control,
assessing and cataloging the Ima Herron collection for the DeGolyer Library
at SMU. She received her bachelor’s degree in history from SMU in
2000 and graduated magna cum laude with honors.
Barrett started her position as the Serials/Acquisitions Librarian on
February 1, 2005. This newly restructured position in the Center
for Information Processing is responsible for both serials cataloging
and serials acquisitions. She earned her M.L.S. degree from the University
of Southern Mississippi and earned her bachelor’s degree from Loyola
University in New Orleans. Barrett previously worked at the University
of Houston-Clear Lake in technical services. She was involved in
cataloging a variety of materials that were given as gifts from NASA’s
Johnson Space Center.
Gibbons began her position as the new Fine Arts Librarian on February
28, 2005. She comes to SMU from the Dallas Museum of Art, where she served
as head of Digital Imaging and provided reference in the Meyer Library.
Gibbons recently translated and compiled the bibliography and exhibition
list for the catalog raisonné in conjunction with the Dallas Museum
of Art's exhibition “Anne Vallayer-Coster: Painter to the Court
of Marie-Antoinette.” She also served as docent trainer in Art Education
for the Kimball Museum of Art in Fort Worth.
The Jake and Nancy Hamon Fine Arts Library at Southern Methodist University
opened its doors in November 1990 as a branch of SMU's Central University
Libraries (CUL). Located in the Meadows School of the Arts, the Hamon
Library is a 46,000 square foot, four-floor facility which houses SMU's
collections in art, arts administration, cinema, dance, music, and theater,
including 100,000 cataloged books and scores, 30,000 audio and video recordings,
and 262 current periodical subscriptions.
