SMU AWARDS 648 DEGREES IN DECEMBER GRADUATION CEREMONY

DALLAS (SMU) — SMU awarded 648 degrees at its December graduation ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 13, in McFarlin Auditorium. Of these, 313 were graduate and professional degrees and 335 were undergraduate degrees.

Graduate and professional degrees were conferred at 5 p.m. The undergraduate ceremony was held at 7:30 p.m. Afterward, faculty marshals and alumni led the new graduates in the Rotunda Recessional. This SMU tradition begins with the audience singing the school song, Varsity, while the new graduates march from McFarlin Auditorium across the main part of campus to the Rotunda of Dallas Hall, the university’s oldest building. The Rotunda Recessional marks the passage of students to graduates.

SMU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Ross C Murfin gave the address at both ceremonies.
