SMU Professor Appointed To National Academy Of Engineering Panel

DALLAS (SMU) -- SMU Engineering Professor Geoffrey Orsak has been appointed
to a 15-member blue ribbon panel comprised of some of the nation's top
engineers and scientists to evaluate the U.S. Marine Corps science and
technology programs.
The National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Sciences
named Orsak to the panel, which will convene in May in Washington, D.C.
and submit its report to the federal government this fall.
Orsak is associate dean at SMU's School of Engineering and professor
of electrical engineering. He also is executive director of the Institute
for Engineering Education at SMU, a national center of excellence in
innovative engineering education for students in kindergarten through
graduate school.
Orsak, a 2001 KPMG High Tech Award recipient, also serves as director
of The Infinity Project. Sponsored by Texas Instruments and SMU's School
of Engineering, The Infinity Project helps school districts incorporate
state-of-the-art engineering and advanced technology into high school
curriculum.
In the past, Orsak is has been a member of the Defense Science Study
Group, a program sponsored by the Department of Defense that introduces
top young American science and engineering researchers to national security
issues. Orsak also serves on a number of advisory boards including the
executive committee of the Texas Engineering and Technical Consortium.
