SMU Announces Speakers For 2003-04 Tate Lecture Series
DALLAS (SMU) -- Author Tom Clancy, Award-winning actress Stockard Channing, computer mogul Michael Dell and presidential historian Michael Beschloss will be among the speakers for the 22nd season of SMU's Willis M. Tate Distinguished Lecture Series.
The 2003-2004 season begins Wednesday, Sept. 24, with The Linda and Mitch Hart Lecture featuring a panel moderated by David Gergen, editor-at-large of U.S. News & World Report and adviser to four U.S. presidents. The topic is "American Leadership in Today's World;" and panelists will include former U.S. Secretary of Defense Bill Cohen and former U.S. Senator George Mitchell.

"We're excited about the 22nd season of the Tate Lecture Series, which has become such an integral part of the cultural and intellectual life of Dallas," said Linda W. Hart, Chair of the Tate Lecture Series Board of Directors. "The speakers and the topics will make for memorable evenings at SMU. "
The Tate Lecture Series is presented by The Dallas Morning News and sponsored by WFAA-TV (Channel 8), Talk Radio 570 KLIF and American Airlines. Supporters are Robb & Stucky, the Mansion on Turtle Creek, Blumengarten by Judy Blackman, Cencor Realty Services, SMU Norwick Center for Media, SMU Student Foundation, Sewell Lexus and The Weitzman Group.
"Whether it is policy, business, science or culture, the Tate Lecture Series continues its tradition of presenting national and international issues featuring well-known speakers and panelists," said Jeanne P. Whitman, SMU's vice president for Development and External Affairs. "SMU is pleased to bring these perspectives not only to the university but to the Dallas community."
