Nominations Open For SMU Board Of Trustees
DALLAS (SMU) -- The SMU Board of Trustees is seeking nominations for
candidates for 26 at-large trustees. The four-year terms of office will
begin in July 2004 when the South Central Jurisdiction of the United Methodist
Church elects trustees at its quadrennial meeting. The criteria for selection
are:
- Reputation for morality and ethical behavior;
- Reputation for professional, business or public service leadership
as reflected in level of success, honors and awards;
- Reputation for social responsibility as reflected in leadership in
civic organizations and community service;
- Ability and willingness to provide financial support to the University
as generously as possible, or to attract significant financial
support from other individuals, corporations and foundations;
- Ability and willingness to fulfill other responsibilities of a trustee,
including attendance at board meetings, service on board committees
and executive boards, and service on special projects beneficial to the
University;
- Appreciation and support of the historic relationship between the
University and The United Methodist Church;
- Personal stature in his or her community and business or profession
that will promote the most favorable image of the University
in the region and nation, and assist in attracting other distinguished
persons to the
board.
Any nominee should possess at least some capability in each of these
areas. The ideal nominee would possess great strength with respect to
all enumerated characteristics.
