DALLAS (SMU) -- SMU's Perkins School of Theology will host an information session in San Antonio for people interested in pursuing careers in ministry.

"Inside Perkins," a free information session and dinner, will begin at 5:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at the Perkins extension program at the University United Methodist Church, 5084 DeZavala Road, in San Antonio. Registration for the event, which will be held in the church's John Wesley Room, has a Jan. 6 deadline.

"Inside Perkins" will introduce prospective students from the Southwest Texas and Rio Grande Annual Conferences of The United Methodist Church to the Perkins-San Antonio seminary studies program, which is held at University Church. Started in 2002, the Perkins-San Antonio program offers courses toward the Master of Divinity or Master of Church Ministries degrees.

Next year, the Perkins-San Antonio program will launch a new, more flexible schedule with evening classes to accommodate working students.

"The goal of the San Antonio Area Program is, first, to equip more persons in southwest Texas for effective leadership in our Church, and, second, to allow persons answering a call to ministry to begin studies with minimal disruption to their home and work," said William B. Lawrence, dean of Perkins School of Theology.

Representatives from admissions, financial aid and community life will be available to discuss the process of seeking theological education and preparation for ministry. They will also be available to answer questions about cost and class schedules.

For reservations to attend "Inside Perkins," register online at, or call (214) 768-2293 or 1-888-THEOLOGY.
