DALLAS (SMU) -- SMU's annual Homecoming parade will take the Hillcrest Avenue route for the second year. This year's parade is billed as "All-American SMU" and will start on Hillcrest at Daniel Avenue and travel south to Highland Park United Methodist Church, where it will turn onto the campus and head north on Bishop to Binkley Avenue. The parade will close Hillcrest Avenue from 10 a.m. until approximately 11:30 a.m.

The university tradition welcomes people from the surrounding Dallas community to bring their families to view the parade, children's entertainment, a silent auction and a catered barbecue lunch. The parade includes floats designed and constructed by SMU students as well as special entries from alumni and other groups who will pass out candy throughout the parade route. Lots of the activities will be centered along Bishop Blvd., known during SMU home games as "The Boulevard," where families gather for tailgating parties.

"This is the second year we have had the parade down Hillcrest. I'm glad so many people from the surrounding communities came last year," said Homecoming Vice Chair Sarah Brewer. "I love to see the kids enjoying the hard work we put into these floats."

Martina Moravcova, former SMU swimmer and two-time silver Olympic Medallist, will serve as the Grand Marshal for the "All-American SMU" Homecoming Parade. Moravcova added to the "All-American" community of SMU when she came to the university in 1995 from the small town of Piestany, Slovakia. Moravcova is a five-time World Champion and World University Games Champion. She graduated from SMU in 2000 and currently serves as volunteer assistant coach for the Mustang Women's Swimming Team.

After the parade, children can play games and watch Tharpo the clown at the flagpole on the SMU campus while parents attend a silent auction sponsored by the Dallas Area Young Alumni Associates. The barbecue luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. This costs $10 for adults and $5 for children eight and younger. Entertainment will feature Ed Bernet and the Levee singers.

SMU Homecoming is an annual event produced by the SMU Student Foundation and the SMU Office of Alumni Relations. For more information, contact the SMU Office of Alumni Relations at 214-768-2586.
