THREE SMU MECHANICAL ENGINEERING STUDENTS RECEIVE INDUSTRY AWARDS

DALLAS (SMU) -- Three mechanical engineering students from SMU received awards at the 2001-02 Honors and Awards Banquet organized by the North Texas Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The awards were presented May 16 at the Doubletree Hotel -- Lincoln Centre.

The students receiving awards were senior Michael Christoffel and doctoral students Philip Shimon and Ali Merrikh. Christoffel received the Lockheed Martin Industry Award, Shimon received the Micro Fab Technologies Award and Ali Merrikh received the Applied Thermal Technologies Award. Each ASME-NTS Industry Award includes a cash prize of $500.

Selection criteria for the awards includes educational achievements, professional society activities, professional experience and civic activities.
