SMU INCREASES TUITION SUPPORT FOR DEPENDENTS AND SPOUSES OF UNITED METHODIST CHURCH CLERGY

DALLAS (SMU) -- SMU has increased the tuition support for dependents and spouses of United Methodist clergy attending SMU as full-time undergraduate students. President R. Gerald Turner announced that SMU would award each clergy dependent or spouse a $7,000 per year award, up from $3,000 per year.

“By more than doubling the award, the university continues to affirm the important United Methodist connection to SMU,” said Dr. Jim Caswell, vice president for student affairs and director of church relations at SMU. “Our hope is that more clergy dependents and spouses will come to SMU. We have long supported the financial needs of clergy dependents and spouses. Even beyond the up-front commitment, SMU stands ready to provide additional assistance based on financial need.”

This increase in tuition support is in addition to any merit scholarships that the student may receive. The change goes into effect fall 2002.
