DALLAS (SMU) -- Kyle Morris Schindler of Houston, a sophomore at SMU, has been selected to receive an undergraduate research fellowship from SMU's John Goodwin Tower Center for Political Studies for the 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 academic years.

Schindler, who is majoring in political science, will be the Juanita and Henry S. Miller Undergraduate Research Fellow. He maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.80. As a research fellow, he will receive a stipend of $500 each semester for four consecutive semesters, a book allowance to defray the cost of books relevant to his research, and support for travel to a conference or other venue where he will present the results of his research.

The Tower Center, founded in 1993, was named in honor of the late U.S. Sen. John Tower. The senator earned a master's degree from SMU, and taught in the political science department after his retirement from the Senate. The center supports teaching and research related to American political and economic institutions, international political economy and the role of the United States in the global order. It is the only undergraduate program of its kind in Texas.
