SAN ANTONIO -- The SMU School of Engineering has announced plans to offer two executive master's degree programs in San Antonio. Classes will be held at the school's Advanced Computer Education Center at 7550 IH-10 West, Suite 510, in San Antonio.

The two programs to be offered are an executive master's degree in information engineering and management and an executive master's degree in systems engineering. Both programs will be targeted to candidates and professionals currently working in industry who want to gain the skills necessary to move into top management positions. Both have been designed in close cooperation with industry.

"Southern Methodist University's School of Engineering is bringing the Executive Master's of Science in Engineering degree to San Antonio as a way of supporting the city's technology initiatives," said Terry Gray, director of SMU's Advanced Computer Education Center in San Antonio. "By providing a fast-track format for key business professionals to increase their knowledge of information technology, something which is not offered by any other institution in San Antonio, SMU will help build a group of highly educated individuals at San Antonio companies who can be instrumental in expanding technology opportunities within the city."

The executive master's degree in information engineering and management program will provide graduates with the tools to effectively engineer and manage the information flow of their organizations. The curriculum is comprised of 10 courses, ranging from software, networking and hardware courses, to courses in information-handling, management and system-level considerations.

The executive master's degree in systems engineering is designed to provide individuals with the capability to effectively manage the development of complex systems in an ever-changing environment. SMU began offering the first systems engineering graduate program in Texas in 1995.

Each program will begin as soon as sufficient enrollment is reached. Classes will meet one Friday and Saturday a month for two years, with an additional full week of classes during the summer.
