DALLAS (SMU) -- Carrying candles, lanterns and a tall silver star, Southern Methodist University international students will sing traditional Christmas carols door-to-door along University Boulevard on Thursday, Dec. 20, inviting the neighbors to join the caroling.

The students will assemble at 6:30 p.m. by the large Christmas tree in front of Dallas Hall to begin the caroling excursion, recreating some of the traditions in many of the international students’ homelands.

In Romania and many Eastern European countries, Christmas Eve is celebrated with carolers dressed in folklore costumes who go door-to-door entertaining their fellow villagers with songs and special greetings.

The international students will end the evening of caroling by assembling for a Christmas party at Selecman Hall, 5905 Bishop Blvd., where they will warm up with hot chocolate and Christmas dancing. Neighbors who would like to join them should bring a treat to share. The event is sponsored by the Organization of International Students, which has members from 90 countries.
