DALLAS (SMU) -- Southern Methodist University’s Literary Festival will feature former poet laureate of the United States Robert Pinsky, who will read selections from his various volumes of poetry at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the Hughes-Trigg Theatre, 3140 Dyer St.

Pinsky, who wrote Jersey Rain, The Figured Wheel, Americans’ Favorite Poetry, The Sounds of Poetry and Poetry Speaks, will be available for a book signing following his presentation. The SMU Bookstore will have a table with Pinsky’s books available for purchase at the event, which is free and open to the public.

SMU’s LitFest has been an annual celebration of writing for the past 26 years. This year, it has undergone a change in format from the past, featuring one author per month, instead of several authors all presenting their work during one week of literary events.

Past writers who have participated in SMU’s LitFest include John Updike, Joyce Carol Oates, Alice Walker and Norman Mailer. The SMU LitFest is one of the oldest student-run literary events in the country and gives the community a unique opportunity to interact with major literary figures.
