DALLAS (SMU) -- Southern Methodist University’s Department of English in Dedman College will host a symposium on the films of Stanley Kubrick as part of the Hughes Lecture Series at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in McCord Auditorium, Room 306 Dallas Hall, 3225 University Blvd. The symposium is free and open to the public.

Wake Forest University English Professor Philip Kuberski will present a lecture titled “Plumbing the Abyss: Stanley Kubrick’s Bathrooms.” University of California Rhetoric Professor Frederick Dolan will present “The Metaphysics of Sexual Love: From Schopenhauer to Kubrick.” Both professors are editing a volume of new essays on Stanley Kubrick to be published by Cambridge University Press in 2002. The volume is the first wide-ranging examination since Kubrick’s death in 1999 of the late film director’s cultural significance.

The Hughes Lecture Series is supported by the D. E. Hughes endowment, which supports visits by three to five scholars, novelists and poets each year for the enrichment of the humanities at SMU.

Parking is available in the parking garage at Airline Road and Daniel Avenue.
