SMU TO PRAY AND REMEMBER ON SEPT. 14

DALLAS (SMU) -- Southern Methodist University will host a special prayer service at noon on Friday, Sept. 14, as part of President Bush’s call for a national Day of Prayers and Remembrance in the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

The SMU community will meet at the flagpole for the service that will feature the playing of the university carillon (bells), silent prayer, remarks by SMU President R. Gerald Turner and Perkins School of Theology Dean Robin W. Lovin, student readings and benediction by SMU Chaplain William Finnin. Dean of Dedman College Jasper Neel will lead the singing of the national anthem.

Journals for students to write their feelings and reflections will be available on a table at the service. The journals have been available since Tuesday and ultimately will be donated to the SMU library archives.
