SAN ANTONIO STUDENT RECEIVES ANTHROPOLOGY AWARD FROM SMU

DALLAS (SMU) -- San Antonio resident Allison Mittler received the 2001 Edward and Peggy Fry Award given by Southern Methodist University's Department of Anthropology. The award is presented annually to a student who has demonstrated academic excellence in anthropology and who has shown a strong record of involvement in departmental activities.

Mittler graduated from SMU in May with a bachelor's degree in anthropology.

While at SMU, she was a President's Scholar, a member of the Hyer Society and president of the Anthropology Club. She also assisted SMU anthropology professor David Meltzer with archaeological research and field work in New Mexico, West Texas, Oklahoma and eastern Colorado.

Mittler plans to continue archaeology studies this fall at the University of Washington.

Mittler is the daughter of Kathy Mittler and Dr. Brandt Mittler of San Antonio.
