LOCAL STUDENT WINS UPS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

DALLAS (SMU) -- Blake Russell Biggers of Bonham, a sophomore at Southern Methodist University, is one of 35 Texas recipients of the 2000 UPS Foundation Scholarship. Biggers, a general business major with a cumulative grade point average of 3.01, will be awarded $3,500.

The UPS Foundation, part of United Parcel Service, was established in 1974 with a $4.2 million endowment. Since then, more than $18.8 million has been given in scholarships and student aid.

The UPS Foundation's educational endowment fund is administered by the Chicago-based Foundation for Independent Higher Education (FIHE), which this year has provided over $1.7 million in scholarships and financial aid to some 626 of the nation's independent colleges and universities.

SMU is a private, comprehensive university located in Dallas. It has an enrollment of more than 10,000 students and a full-time faculty of more than 500. SMU offers undergraduate degree programs in Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences, Meadows School of the Arts, Edwin L. Cox School of Business and the School of Engineering. Graduate and professional programs are offered in these schools and in Perkins School of Theology and Dedman School of Law.
