DALLAS (SMU) -- First Lady Laura Bush chose a former Kerrville resident's photograph of her as her official Presidential Inauguration photo.

Southern Methodist University photographer Hillsman S. Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Jackson, 609 North Elk St. of Fredericksburg, photographed then-Texas First Lady in 1999 to illustrate a story about her for the SMU alumni magazine. Bush, a 1968 graduate of SMU, was honored with the 1999 SMU Distinguished Alumni Award for her contributions to education and literacy.

The photograph, which shows the first lady in a copper-colored suit standing in front of a dozen yellow roses, appeared as the official portrait of the first lady in all the publications of the 54th Presidential Inaugural, including the official guidebook, media guide, ball programs and inaugural parade program.

Jackson, a 1987 graduate of East Texas State University (now Texas A&M Commerce), has been with SMU since 1992.
