PERKINS CHAPEL RECITAL TO FEATURE LARRY PALMER ON BOTH ORGANS

DALLAS (SMU) -- Larry Palmer, Southern Methodist University organist and head of the organ department in the Meadows School of the Arts, will give an organ recital at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, on the newly renovated and enlarged pipe organs in Perkins Chapel.

The recital will feature both the small, mechanical-action Sipe organ in the chapel gallery and the larger, Aeolian-Skinner/Schudi/Dupont organ in the chancel area.

The first half of the program, played from the gallery, will feature Baroque music from the Danzig Tabulature and compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach and Spanish composer Pablo Bruna.

The second half of the program, played on the chancel organ, will feature two important compositions from French composers Olivier Messiaen and Jean Françaix.

Palmer will conclude with two works by the 20th century American composer Leo Sowerby. The program is presented free of charge. For more information, call the Master of Sacred Music Program at Perkins School of Theology, 214-768-2502.
