Texas Politics Expert: Texas in Play

Cal Jillson

The star scholar on Lone Star politics, here’s what Cal Jillson is saying about the Democrat and Republican chances in the Texas primary:

"Texas is in play, though in different ways, on both sides. On the Republican side, McCain has a commanding lead. He will continue to be nice to Huckabee while pummeling Romney. McCain should roll smoothly along and can expect clear wins in both Texas and Ohio on March 4."

"On the Democratic side, Clinton is narrowly ahead but will give up ground this coming weekend and next Tuesday in Maryland, Virginia and DC. Clinton is well positioned in both Texas and Ohio on March 4 and will look for solid wins in both to reestablish her frontrunner status."

Professor Jillson was on KERA public radio Feb. 6, talking about the Texas primaries and the challenges the candidates face.  Hear an excerpt from that 30-program, or hear the full discussion.

Cal Jillson is a scholar of Texas and U.S. politics and professor of political science at SMU. He can be reached at 214-768-4321 or cjillson@smu.edu.
