Earth Week Events at SMU
April 11 - 22, 2008

SMU observes 2008 Earth Week April 11-22 with events and activities ranging from residence hall recycling competitions to student leadership training. The schedule follows. For more information on SMU's conservation efforts, visit the "Recycling at SMU" webpage, where there is information on Single Stream Recycling and the Reduce, Reuse & Recycle program.

April 11th – 20th  
Residence Halls Recycle Competition - prizes handed out to winners on Earth Day, April 22nd. You must be present to win.
   
Wednesday, April 16th  
11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
 
West Bridge Table at Hughes-Trigg Student Center - display board, Earth Day advertising, sign up sheet for public outreach events, raffle tickets
5 - 7 p.m. Campus sustainability activist Rachel Barge will offer a training session for student environmental leaders in 153 Heroy Hall. As an undergraduate at the University of California—Berkeley, Barge co-created The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF), a student fee program that raises $200,000 annually for Berkeley campus sustainability projects, including clean energy and transportation, energy efficiency, water conservation, and recycling and composting programs. Thursday, April 17th

 
11 a.m. - 1 p.m. West Bridge Table at Hughes-Trigg Student Center - display board, Earth Day advertising, sign up sheet for public outreach events, raffle tickets.
   

Friday, April 18th

 
11 a.m. - 1 p.m. West Bridge Table at Hughes-Trigg Student Center - display board, Earth Day advertising, sign up sheet for public outreach events, raffle tickets.
   
Saturday, April 19th  
8 a.m. - noon Texas Trees Foundation: Tree Planting
Location: Richland College, TXU Urban Tree Farm, 12800 Abrams Road. Bring: gardening gloves (if you have them), and water bottle
Wear: old shoes and clothes (you will get dirty), sunscreen
Activity: planting, transplanting, weeding, mulching, staking
8 a.m. - noon For the Love of the Lake:
Location: 1152 N. Buckner Blvd –Suite #123, Dallas TX 75218
Provided: basic snacks and water, pick up sticks and trash bags
Bring: extra water bottle
Wear: Old clothes and shoes, sunscreen
Activity: Clean up White Rock Lake
   
Monday, April 21st

Tuesday, April 22nd  
10 a.m. - 3 p.m. EARTH DAY!

12:15 p.m. - 1 p.m.

 

• SMU Vice President Chris Casey will speak on SMU Earth-friendly policy and plans followed by question and answer session.

• Raffle and Recycle Competition winners will be announced and prizes given away.
1:30 - 3 p.m. Informational tables, games, prizes, FREE food, FREE t-shirts, FREE showerheads.
