NEW STUDENT PROGRAMS
The role of New Student Programs is to prepare you for your first year at
SMU. The orientation we have designed for you is comprised of a two-step
process involving Academic Advising, Registration and Orientation (AARO) and
Mustang Corral. Additionally, the Encore Series provides programming
throughout your first year to help you understand the new responsibilities
that you will have as a college student.

Meet our Student Interns

Megan Voss
Hi! My name is Megan Voss and I am the Academic Advising, Registration and
Orientation (AARO) Intern. I want to be one of the first to congratulate you on
your acceptance to Southern Methodist University! In order to complete the first
step of our two-step orientation process, you must attend one of the AARO
sessions this summer. AARO is a two-day orientation program for all first-year
students and a one-day program for Transfer students that allows you to meet SMU
faculty, staff, and AARO Student Leaders. You will be provided academic
information, course registration, campus resources, and innumerable
opportunities to meet members of your incoming class. Again, I want to
congratulate you on your acceptance to SMU and welcome you to the Mustang
family!

Erin Ramaker
Welcome to SMU! My name is Erin Ramaker and I am the Mustang Corral Intern for 2008. Mustang Corral is a three day, two night off-campus retreat, where new students get the chance to meet current students and Faculty/Staff members. Current students and Faculty/Staff members are paired together to facilitate Round-Up groups consisting of 10-15 new students. Mustang Corral gives students the chance to discover more about themselves, those around them, and the traditions, academics, and involvement opportunities that are offered at SMU.
Mustang Corral gives students the tools to make an easier transition into college life. The best part of Mustang Corral is getting to know members of the SMU community and learning more about different aspects of the university. Many students feel that after attending they are more comfortable about life at SMU, because of the connections they made at Mustang Corral. It gives students someone to walk to class with, sit next to during lectures or someone to attend a football game with.
I am truly excited about meeting each an everyone of you in the incoming class of 2012! I know through experience you'll definitely love attending Mustang Corral!
