Rhodes Two years’ post-graduate study at Oxford. Tuition, fees, living allowance, travel. Senior; U.S. citizen, exceptional intellectual achievement, integrity of character, leadership. Highly competitive: 32 awarded annually. SMU Deadline September 1.
Mitchell Tuition, housing, travel, living expenses for one year post-graduate study in Ireland. Senior; U.S. citizen; under 30 yrs old; any major; academic excellence, intellectual distinction; outstanding leadership record; sustained and demonstrated commitment to service and community. Highly competitive; 12 awarded annually.
Marshall Two years’ graduate study at any university in the U.K. Tuition, fees, travel, living stipend. 40 awarded annually. Senior; U.S. citizen; any major; 3.70+; distinction of character, leadership, scholarly attainment, contributions to community. SMU Deadline September 1.
Fulbright Senior or graduate student, U.S. citizen, any major, language proficiency. One year of study abroad. Also possible: English teaching TA (Germany, Spain, Korea, Indonesia, etc.). See Office of National Fellowships in the spring of your junior year.
Rotary Ambassador Undergraduate or grad, U.S. citizen, any major, language proficiency. One year of study abroad.
Goldwater Junior or soph planning research career in math or science (not pre-med). Citizen or resident alien; research experience; 3.70+ and strong potential to make a contribution to the field. SMU may nominate 4. Up to $7,500 for jr and sr years, toward tuition, room and board, books.
Udall Soph or junior planning career dedicated to the environment or environmental public policy; broad range of majors (ex. Anthropology, Environmental Science, Biology, Public Policy…); also provides scholarships for Native American or Alaska Natives focusing on health care or tribal public policy. Citizen or perm res; 3.70+ GPA. 80 awarded nationwide; SMU may nominate 6. Provides $5,000 for jr and sr years, toward tuition, room and board, books.
Truman Juniors planning careers in public service. $3,000 for senior yr and $24,000 for grad studies. One awarded per state, plus 25 at-large. SMU may nominate 4. Citizen; extensive community service, outstanding academics and leadership. Service requirement. Apps open August 1.
Pickering Juniors preparing to enter U.S. Dept of State Foreign Service. Women, minorities especially encouraged. Citizen; minimum 3.20+; outstanding demonstrated leadership, academic achievement, financial need. Commitment to pursue master’s degree in international studies. Provides tuition, fees, room and board for sr year and first year of grad study.
Jacob Javits Senior or student in first year of grad study; pursuing highest terminal degree; in humanities (60% of awards), arts (20%), or social sciences (20%). Citizen or perm res. Full tuition plus stipend to $30,000.
Madison Senior, citizen, planning to teach American history, govt, or social studies in grades 7-12. Up to $24,000 over two years toward Master’s.
Carnegie Endowment Junior Fellows Graduating senior, or graduated in past academic year, with serious career interest in international affairs. One-year paid assistantship at the Carnegie Endowment think tank in international affairs. Background in international affairs, political science, economics, history, Russian, Chinese, or Middle East Studies. Highly competitive: 8 awarded annually. SMU may nominate 2. SMU deadline December.
Flagship Language, NSEP Two years’ intensive and immersion study in critical languages (Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Farsi, Russian) for students with proficiency in those languages. Generally, one year domestic, one overseas. Senior; citizen; commitment to work in federal national security arena.
