Information for Prospective and Incoming Students

Welcome to the Music Theory preparation and information web site. This site contains important information to help prepare all prospective and incoming students for degree programs in the Division of Music.

Fall 2011 undergraduate theory placement testing is scheduled for Saturday, August 20, 2:00 to 5:00 pm in room 2020 of the Owen Fine Arts Center. Students must be available for the entire testing time.

All Meadows undergraduate students are required to have a Macintosh laptop computer. Additionally, Music Theory courses at SMU may also require Finale and other music software such as MacGamut, as well as hardware such as external microphones, MIDI keyboards, etc. Since these courses make extensive use of laptop computers, the Department of Music Theory will support only computers and software that meet these requirements.
