Drawing from the Masters
Enjoy afternoons of informal drawing instruction as guest artist Ian O'Brien leads you through the Meadows Museum’s galleries. Each session will provide an opportunity to explore a variety of techniques and improve drawing skills. Designed for adults and students ages 15 and older, and open to all levels of experience. Drawing materials will be available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own sketchpads and pencils.

The Tools of a Traveling Artist
Through discussion and studio activities including sketching, watercolor and printmaking, participants will explore how artists since the 15th century have used their art both to document their travels and as a means to promote their talents to potential patrons. This program is designed for adults and high school students.

Evening Lecture
Adriana Zavala, Associate Professor of Latin American Art, Tufts University
Modernist Painting in Post-Revolutionary Mexico
Professor Zavala will offer an overview of the dynamic cultural "renaissance" that followed the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920). Her lecture will contextualize the works on view in Modern Mexican Painting from the Andrés Blaisten Collection through a discussion of programs such as the renowned mural movement, the populist Open-Air painting schools and the validation of Mexican folk traditions, as well as artists who sought to preserve the autonomy of art through an engagement with modernist trends.
