Dr. Dan Schill is an assistant professor in Corporate Communication and Public Affairs at Southern Methodist University. Dr. Schill received his Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Kansas in June of 2006 and also holds a M.A. in communication studies from the University of Kansas and a B.A. in communication and sociology from the University of North Dakota.

His research emphasis is in media and politics, political campaign communication, political marketing, and persuasion and social influence. Dr. Schill’s current research examines how political figures use media events and advance to build their public image, engender positive media coverage, and favorably frame issues for voters. In 2004, Dr. Schill was a research assistant for DebateWatch at KU, a research and voter education project that brings citizens together to watch and discuss the presidential debates.

Dr. Schill currently teaches courses in political communication, media and politics, persuasion, communication law, and quantitative and qualitative research methods at SMU. From 2002 to 2006, Dr. Schill taught classes at KU in public communication, persuasion, communication theory, and rhetoric and social influence, and was named the top graduate student instructor in the communication studies department in 2005.
