Chair, Division of Cinema-Television

The Meadows School of the Arts at SMU invites nominations and applications for an opportunity to lead its dynamic and growing Division of Cinema-Television. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and seek an innovative leader strongly committed to academic excellence and creative expression, with the ability to lead the creation and integration of programs within a changing media landscape.  The chair leads a productive faculty and creative student body; articulates the vision and establishes new opportunities for the division within the Meadows School of the Arts and will be expected to be a significant partner in connecting the division to an increasingly diverse and a culturally rich arts and technology community in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

Minimum qualifications: an artist or scholar with a terminal degree or  equivalent professional experience and with creative, teaching and scholarship experience sufficient for appointment at the rank of full professor; administrative experience; a commitment to diversity; creative energy; and evidence of innovation and forward-thinking leadership

Preferred qualifications: demonstrated success in leading a diverse community of scholars and artists and in recruiting a global population of students and faculty; familiarity with new curricular directions; an active creative/scholarly life that will help establish the highest possible standards for the division; experience with building a national reputation; an understanding of and keen interest in the uses of emerging technologies and interactive media; a broad range of interests and a commitment to outreach and fundraising. Production experience, the ability to foster industry connections and/or the embracing of interdisciplinary teaching are also highly desirable.

The Division of Cinema-Television
The Division of Cinema-Television guides its approximately one hundred undergraduate and graduate majors through both the practical and the conceptual aspects of film and video, and encourages interdisciplinary connections to related fields in new media; including journalism, advertising, gaming and communications.  The Division closely collaborates with the annual AFI Dallas Film Festival and is deeply involved in The G. William Jones Film Collection Archive. Faculty members are acclaimed scholars, as well as film and video artists. Alumni have won Emmys and the Student Academy Award.
