Rebecca Carter

Rebecca Carter joined the SMU faculty in the fall of 2005 after graduating with an M.F.A. in Fiber and Material Studies
from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005. She also holds a B.F.A. in studio art from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2003), and a B.A. in women’s studies and studio/art history from Oberlin College (1993), and exhibits nationally.
At SMU, Carter teaches Introductory Drawing, Foundations, the Junior Seminar and conceptually based inter-media classes designed to nurture personal investigation of materiality, site, time and the everyday.
In her work, Carter deals with the expressive potential of simple gestures. She collects and recombines fragments, and inhabits the interstitial.
