About Meadows

Our NeighborhoodOur Neighborhood: The Meadows School of the Arts is located in a vibrant cultural and business community. We make it a point to put students in touch with the exceptional resources Dallas/Fort Worth offers in the performing, visual and communication arts. Our area also serves as a central transportation hub, and our proximity to D/FW Airport means that travel to points across the United States and beyond is convenient to arrange.

SMU is a respected university in a top 10 media market with great connections to business and industry in the region. That means that our advertising, journalism and corporate communications/public affairs students have access to a wide range of internship opportunities, sessions with media leaders and "real-world" expertise. A vibrant film and television production industry, as well as a multitude of movie houses, means that cinema-television students have an excellent opportunity to learn even more outside the classroom.

Visual arts students will find a treasure trove of excellent museums and art galleries to explore, from our own internationally-recognized Meadows Museum to the Dallas Museum of Art and the Kimbell Museum in Fort Worth, as well as private collections available exclusively through our faculty's connections. From art of the ancient world to cutting-edge contemporary exhibits, this region has it.

Interested in theater, dance or music? The local performing arts scene is thriving. Theater performances are available virtually every day of the year at venues ranging from the Dallas Theater Center to Pocket Sandwich Theater to Shakespeare in the Park. Our alumni are an important part of that theatrical community, and some have formed their own companies. We have strong connections to the dance and classical music scene as well—whether through the many faculty who play for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra or recent dance graduates who lead their own companies. There are many other offerings in music that students can take advantage of, including chamber groups, early music ensembles and opera companies in both Dallas and Fort Worth. DFW is also a frequent stop for touring companies of Broadway shows and hosts internationally known dance companies and musical groups.

Add to that great weather, southern hospitality—Texas is called the "Friendship State" for good reason! – wonderful restaurants, nearby lakes and parks, major sports teams, and more, and you have a fantastic place in which to work, study and create!
