Networks
This image represents the connection topology of the Internet Service Providers [Source: www.caida.org] as a network of nodes connected to others by links. The Internet is an example of the so-called scale-free networks, characterized by the unexpectedly high probability of having a node with a large degree (the number of links connected to the node). Mathematically, the distribution of degrees is well approximated by a power law. Professor Nishikawa's research investigates the effect of the network topology, such as the scale-free property, on the dynamical phenomena of the network of oscillators, such as synchronization. |
