The Corporate Directors’ Institute is a symposium presented bi-annually by the SMU Law Review Association to illuminate and address issues of corporate governance currently faced by directors and executives of publicly traded companies. The program consists of two afternoon panel discussions, which address emerging topics in audit committee effectiveness and corporate governance, followed by a cocktail hour and dinner address.
Past speakers include: Richard A.Grasso, former Chairman and CEO of the New York Stock Exchange; Martin Lipton, a founding partner of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz; the Honorable Stanley Sporkin, former U.S. District Court Judge and SEC Enforcement Director; and the Honorable E. Norman Veasey, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Delaware.
In light of the current corporate environment, all directors of publicly traded companies need to understand their legal, fiduciary and ethical oversight responsibilities. Now more than ever, being an informed and educated director is a necessity. By attending the Institute, directors will gain practical insights into new rules and policies that affect publicly listed companies and their board members.
