The Friends of the SMU Libraries Grants Committee met on April 27, 2010 to review grant proposals submitted by the libraries. The committee was chaired by Judy McMillin and included
Valentina Doyon, Joanne
Pratt and Harold Stanley. Amy Carver was ex-officio. The following grants were approved by the committee:
$8,000 to Central University Libraries to purchase a digital microforms scanner for Fondren Library Center.
$4,000 to the DeGolyer Library to add to the Colophon Collection of modern American literature.
$3,750 to Central University Libraries for the Archive Capital Fee for the JSTOR Health and General Sciences Collection.
$3,000 to CUL Development to use as a challenge grant for the Fall 2010 CUL Telephony telemarketing campaign.
$3,000 to DeGolyer Library and the SMU Archives for a pilot project to digitize the earliest years of the student newspaper, The Campus
$2,350 to the Hamon Arts Library to acquire a facsimile of the Códice Murúa.
$1,500 to the DeGolyer Library Photography Department to purchase Civil War photographs.
$1,500 to the Hamon Arts Library for digitization of audio recordings.
$1,500 to the Jerry Bywaters Special Collections of the Hamon Arts Library for the conservation of 36 works of art on paper by noted Texas regionalist artist Merritt Mauzey.
$200 to Central University Libraries to purchase the American Library Association's Read DVD
Amount of grants: $28,800
Grants approved for yearly distribution:
$3,000 to CUL to assist in funding the production of the CUL annual report publication.
$2,000 to support two Library School Scholarship Awards. This year’s scholarship recipient is Emily Grubbs.
$500 to the SMU Libraries to support the Effective Use of Information Technology Staff Award
$500 to the SMU Libraries to support the Employee of the Year Staff Award
