Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Are my children allowed to use my Friends membership to check out materials from the SMU libraries?

A:  The person whose name appears on the card  must be present to take advantage of their borrowing privileges.

    Q:  What  is Colophon?

A:  Originally, colophon  was the bibliographic information printed at the end of a book; the term is now used almost exclusively for the publisher’s device commonly printed on the title-page  and the spine of the cover jacket.

Q:  How do I acquire borrowing privileges at the SMU  libraries?

A: Join the Friends of the SMU Libraries at the Associate or higher level. (Check our membership page for a  break down of membership levels.)

Q:  What do my membership dollars support?

A:  All moneys raised by the Friends of the SMU Libraries through  both membership and fundraising directly funds the  annual grants program. Each Spring, the Grants Committee meets to review grant proposals from all of the libraries for  things like books, electronic resources, equipment and staff support. The  committee then awards as many of the grants as possible from the funds raised throughout the year.
