The Campaign for SMU:
A Time to Lead
Surpassing the goal
The five-year Campaign for SMU: A Time to Lead, which concluded in spring 2002, surpassed its goal by raising nearly $542 million. The most successful fund-raising effort in the University's history, it raised more funds than has any other institutional campaign in North Texas.
Commitments to the Campaign resulted in 80 new endowments for academic programs, 171 new student scholarships and awards, 28 new campus life initiatives, 16 new academic positions, and 14 new or renovated facilities. Through the Campaign, SMU has been greatly strengthened in key academic areas including science and technology. In addition, the Campaign reinforced the University's strong foundation for continued progress in securing scholarship and faculty support.
The Campaign's success rests upon tremendous support from more than 41,000 alumni, parents, and friends who made gifts of all sizes. In addition, members of SMU's Board of Trustees provided extraordinary support through their vision, leadership, and gifts.
As a result of the Campaign, SMU has strengthened its academic programs, scholarship assistance, faculty resources, quality of student life, and key facilities. SMU will be more competitive in attracting and serving a diverse population of top students and scholars, contributing research to the community and society, and advancing its position of leadership nationally in higher education.
