About the Institute:
Have you always wondered why certain individuals have what it takes to be a leader and others do not? Have you ever wanted to develop your leadership skills to really make a big impact on others? Even if you thought you never had what it takes to be a strong leader, the Crain Leadership Institute is for you! Experience interactive workshops, a free lunch, an amazing keynote speaker, a chance to network and learn about leadership opportunities, and a chance to win some great prizes!

Every fall, LEAD [Leadership Education, Activities & Development] sponsors the Crain Leadership Institute. Leaders gather in the Hughes-Trigg Student Center to attend a program designed to help enhance their leadership skills. This year will be the fourth year that the Crain Leadership Institute has been open to students outside of the SMU campus, with over two hundred students from across the Dallas - Ft. Worth Metroplex coming to the Hilltop.

Where have all the leaders gone? And what is leadership anyway? These two questions set Brendon Burchard on a course to discovering the secret success strategies of today’s most effective leaders. Few speakers today understand the realities of both our emerging leaders and our most seasoned executives. But as the author of The Student Leadership Guide, the best-selling student leadership text in the country, and The Leader’s Guide to Innovation, a handbook used to train Fortune 500 company senior executives, Brendon “gets” leadership. His leadership work has been recognized and recommended by the prestigious Robert K. Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership, The National Leadership Institute, The International Leadership Association, The United States Naval Academy, and dozens of the top business schools and corporations worldwide.

The Crain Leadership Institute is a cornerstone event for the whole SMU community, and SMU students, faculty, and alumni work together to make the Institute a success. In addition, the Crain Leadership Institute is one of the only leadership Institutes that is open to every SMU student and every SMU student organization. Each year the Crain Leadership Institute is getting bigger and better, and we hope that one day the Institute will have attendants from every SMU student organization!
