It is our belief that any student has the potential to become a great leader, but it requires both sound methods and continual practice to reach a high and proficient level of leadership. Very simply, great athletes become great at what they do by virtue of spending a considerable amount of their time practicing their sport; and we apply the same concept to the “sport of leadership”. Furthermore, the primary difference between great athletes and average athletes is simply dependent upon the amount of time each puts into practicing their sport. The question you must answer is: Am I prepared to practice enough so that I reach this level of greatness in leadership? A common question regarding this practice aspect concerns details regarding the amount of time that should be given to practicing your leadership skills. And a very simple, yet very true answer is: practice until it becomes easy. For example, if you have difficulty speaking in public settings, practice it over and over again until it becomes easy. When you are able to speak in public settings with ease, then you can rest assured that you have become quite skillful in public speaking. Also, consider working on teams with others. If you are no good at working on a team, practice working with others over and over again, utilizing sound leadership methods in the process, and eventually working on a team will become easy. But when it becomes easy, this in no way means regular practice should cease. Failure to practice results in a dulling of your skills. So, keep on practicing! Greatness is within reach!
