What is the Leadership Certificate Program?
The Leadership Certificate Program is a new leadership development program at SMU. A trial run of the program was conducted during the spring of 2007. During this trial run, 10 students managed to complete the requirements of the program and each received the certificate in leadership, certifying that they obtained the tools necessary to take themselves, their communities, and/or their organizations to the next level.
Each leadership development opportunity at SMU has the potential to help you become a better leader, but The Leadership Certificate Program stands out from the rest due to the fact that it focuses on developing a core set of skills that are essential if you are to become a great leader. The program is not out to make you lead like other leaders, but rather you have the freedom to develop your very own unique leadership style. Our primary aim is to emphasize the importance and necessity of the “Leadership Core”. While a part of the program you will gain insight into the “Leadership Core” and you will come to recognize that the only distance between you and great leadership is practice.
