SMU-in-Italy: Arts and Culture is a 5-week summer program located in the medieval hill town of Orvieto in Umbria.
PROGRAM MISSION
is to introduce students to Italian visual and performing arts and their integral role in politics, religion, and urban life through a broad span of cultural history. Central to this mission is the encouragement of intelligent, critical observation.
The archaeological sites, museums, villas, and churches of Italy serve as living classrooms in which students learn through first-hand experiences of Italian art and culture.
From the program base in Orvieto, a medieval hill town in Umbria, the group makes excursions to spectacular sites and cities such as Siena, Florence, Venice, and Rome.
