An Illustrated Talk
by Tim Severin

In Search of Robinson Crusoe

Tim Severin of County Cork, Ireland, is a noted author and explorer who has written about his journeys to retrace such notable figures as Marco Polo, Sinbad the Sailor, and Moby Dick. For his most recent expedition, In Search of Robinson Crusoe, research led him to evidence that Henry Pitman, a former surgeon and convict marooned on a desert island in the Caribbean, is the principal model on which Daniel Defoe based his 18th century novel. Severin’s work appears regularly in the National Geographic Magazine and his voyages have been the subject of award-winning documentary films. A dynamic speaker, Severin captivates his audiences with the thrills of his adventures. His lectures are lucid, well illustrated, and entertaining.
