Optional Practical Training Workshop dates

If you are graduating in the summer 2008 semester, please sign up for an OPT workshop in order to process your employment application. Remember the workshop is not an information session. You must come prepared and ready to apply.

You may sign up by calling 214-768-4475 or by e-mailing the ISSS Office at smuint@smu.edu. The OPT workshops will close 5 minutes after they begin and students who come late will need to proceed directly to the International Office to sign up for another workshop date and time.

If you have any questions, please come by our office during walk-in hours to meet with an adviser.

If you have applied for OPT and want to check the status of your application, please visit the following website: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/index.jsp Please note you will need your receipt number.



Travel Signature Reminder (for international travel only)

- If your I-20 or DS-2019 has been signed for international travel within 6 months of your travel plans, your document does not need to be signed by an advisor. If the travel signature is older than 6 months and you plan on traveling outside of the U.S., you will need to get a new travel signature. You must give us at least 3 business days to process your request. In addition, please read below the new updated travel requirements for F-1 visa holders

F-1/J-1 STATUS VERIFICATION LETTER REQUEST: If you need a letter verifying your status, please send an email to smuint@smu.edu or sbrunz@smu.edu with the following information. Sue will email you when the letter is ready.

Remember that if you wish to invite a family member or friend, you would need to write an invitation letter. We will write a status verification letter for invitation purposes. You should attach this letter to your personal invitation. Unfortunately, we cannot include specific information about the people you wish to invite. This information should be included in your letter.  

 Processing Time for I-20 and DS-2019 Documents
- Please keep in mind the new processing time when making a request for a new I-20 or DS-2019 document. Any time a change needs to be made to your document (for employment, change of name or major, program extensions, etc.), it will take our office at least 5 business days to process the request and issue you a new document. For example, if the request is made on a Monday, your paperwork should be ready by that Friday.
