INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW BOARD

SMU-in-Taos at Fort Burgwin Research Center in New Mexico is the site of a 13th-century Indian Pueblo, where archaeology students receive academic credit for excavation participation.
Full Committee Review
A review by the full Human Subjects Committee is required when:
- projects involve minors (except where standardized or
education tests only are being administered);
- more than minimal risk to subjects is involved;
- subjects are mentally and/or physically challenged;
- prisoners as subjects;
- or research is of a controversial nature.
Determination of whether a full committee review is needed is made after
an
application has been received and reviewed. This process may require 4 or more weeks. Generally, the Principal Invesitgator (PI) will be invited to attend the regular meeting of the IRB Committee when the application is discussed.
