Human Rights Faculty Council
The SMU Human Rights Faculty Council will be composed of faculty members who have received course development grants and any other faculty members who express interest in developing courses or research/publication in the area of human rights in their own fields.
Faculty Council Mission
To develop an interdisciplinary core of academics devoted to the study, teaching, and dissemination of knowledge about issues in human rights.
For this group to meet at least once per semester for lunch to:
- Consult with each other on courses being developed and taught relating to human rights.
- Consult with faculty members who are contemplating submitting proposals for courses in the minor (and, hopefully, major).
- Discuss current issues in human rights (led by Rick Halperin or others) with an aim to developing interdisciplinary programming, research, and publications in various areas and on various topics.
- Discuss ways to support student efforts to study, research, publish, and work in human rights.
